Welcome To 7K9 - a Division of Openheart Inc.
SANCTUARY
Welcome to Our Sanctuary - this is where severely abused dogs, and dogs that have not been chosen for adoption, are loved and protected for the rest of their lives. This may be the last stop on a long road for some of these poor animals. We do everything we can to make them feel loved and wanted.
Space is extremely limited.
- One of the most important missions of Openheart's sanctuary, beyond caring for the dogs, is educating the public. The ultimate goal of our sanctuary should be to change the way that humans think of, and treat, non-human animals. We embrace the philosophy that the dogs come first. We act on behalf of these animals, and our volunteer caregivers work understanding the difficulties these dogs have lived through. The dogs in our care will never again suffer at the hands of "Mans Best Friend".
- Only professional K-9 handlers work with our abused dogs. This is for
the mental and emotional safety of the animal as well as the volunteer.
- Bingo came to us in a frenzy of frustration. As a puppy he suffered from people that did not understand dog ownership. Bingo was beaten and banished to the back yard before he was 6 months old. It took 3 handlers to transport him to the sanctuary. He appeared to be so fearful of people that we proceeded with caution. We were not even able to put a muzzle on him or touch him. Groomers were unable to do anything with him. Now he plays with the handlers and actually gives kisses to them. Sadly he is very wary of all strangers. He could be adopted if someone wanted to spend the time it would take to gain his trust. Sadly, there are so many sweet dogs and puppies looking for a home that no one has stepped up for Bingo. He is happy and well fed. He plays with his caretakers. He was the first dog in Sanctuary.

- Max was a bait dog for some cruel people that kept Pit Bulls for Fighting. When Max came to us he had 35 clamp holes in his head alone. That was 15 years ago. We never knew what would trigger him so we kept him in sanctuary where he swings on the tire swing and cuddles with the neighbors cat.
- is a Shi-Tzu that was beaten by his owner and taken away by the law. He
has been adopted by an amazing family.
- is a senior Shi-Tzu that was found @ Woofgang Bakery in Orlando. Signs were posted everywhere with no results. One day his Sanctuary Mom took him to the Groomers. Vicky immediately said "That's Chuba", I've been grooming him for years. We were so excited. A call was quickly placed to his owners and they said. "No Thanks, we have a new puppy".
- Chuba will be with us a year Christmas 2011. He is available
for adoption.
- is
a Manchester Terrier mix. We have no idea why Tiger is still with us. He is
fabulous! He was a victim of the economy. He lived with 4 young children and
loved them all. He gets along with other dogs. He is well behaved too. He
will be with us a year Christmas 2011. Please consider him. He will be a
wonderful addition to any family. He weighs about 15 lbs.
- Julie is a Chihuahua mix. She is a big girl for her breed (about 15 lbs.). Julie was brought to the PetSmart parking lot and taken off her leash. The employees tried to catch her but she ran. Somehow she managed to walk or run about a mile through heavy traffic and was found by a lovely lady that called us. Julie does not like other dogs. She does like grown ups and will make a wonderful dog for the right family.
- came to us a a baby. She was adopted at 8 weeks old by a very nice
family. After a year they decided to add another dog to their family. That
dog came from the local dog pound. The went to the dog park and the
new dog was aggressive toward another dog. They
had the new dog put to sleep and returned Sadie to our Rescue. Sadie did not
do anything but they decided that dog ownership was not for them. Sadie is
as sweet as they come and she is waiting for the wonderful home that she
deserves. She is safe in Sanctuary until then. Please tell your friends
about her. She is a wonderful Border Collie/Black Lab mix and she will be 2
yrs old around Christmas 2011.
- is a very sweet dog. She loves people and children but does not do well with other dogs. She has been looking for her forever home for over a year. She is loved and played with at our Sanctuary while she waits for someone like you to take her home and love her.
Our dogs that have not been selected for adoption in more than 6 months are also cared for by our Sanctuary Division. Some live there but others are available to live with trained foster parents in their homes.

is a beautiful Lab mix. She has been looking for her forever home for about 8 months. She is a large dog who is house trained and walks well on a leash. She is playing and waiting for her forever family to find her. C.J. was found by a kind Trooper while she was running between cars on the Florida Turnpike. He posted signs everywhere for a month, but no one claimed her. She is about 2 1/2 yrs old.
Gina
Gina spent most of her live living outside in a kennel. Her job was to produce puppies. She no longer has to do that. She is safe in Rescue/Sanctuary. Gina is a lovely girl that gets along with other dogs. She is available for adoption
